A tincture is a cannabis product which is made dissolving cannabinoids into a solvent such as ethanol. Usually sold in a dropper top bottle, tinctures are a popular way to ingest cannabis either recreationally or medicinally. Sometimes referred to as Green Dragon, tinctures are easy to make at home. Simply take your ground up, decarboxylated cannabis flower, and cover it with a high proof ethanol alcohol such as Everclear in a mason jar, and stick it away in your cupboard or pantry for a few days. Shake the jar every once in a while as the alcohol dissolves the cannabinoids, strain the plant matter away, and you have a potent mixture ready for consumption. Take your tincture orally, or mix it into a drink or into your food. Tinctures are an inexpensive, convenient way to consume cannabis, and don’t use harmful solvents such as butane in the manufacturing process since the solvent used is simply ethanol.
Topicals are products such as lotions, balms and salves which are used externally on the skin. With the emerging popularity of CBD, many companies began infusing CBD oil into topicals in order to take advantage of some of the healing benefits the cannabinoid is known for. Healing balms, salves and other topicals infused with THC are also becoming more and more popular. Although THC will not get you high by absorption through the skin, it has some medicinal qualities as well. Most often you’ll see topicals infused with CBD, THC or a combination of the two. These products can help reduce inflammation or swelling, treat itchy skin conditions or in the case of infused personal lubricant, provide a tingly, exciting sensation. Bath products such as bath bombs infused with cannabinoids can help relax tense muscles, and muscle balms can treat painful muscles after intense exercise. There is a very wide list of topicals available for purchase, covering a wide range of uses.
